What to Do When You Feel Unmotivated: My 3 Favorite Tips

“People often say that inspiration doesn’t last. Well, nor does bathing – that is why we recommend this daily. ”

Zig Ziglar

Some days you wake up motivated and ready to proceed.

On some days things feel heavy and it is hard to get going and find that will inner drive.

And there are often roadblocks, plateaus and valleys along the way towards what you want where you can fall under a slump. Or fail to find a way out in a rut.

And you feel like your motivation has flown away.

So today I’d like to simply share three of my favorites and in the experience most effective ways to find that will motivation again.

1 . Do the 10 minute recharge exercise.

Here’s the way you do this motivation exercise.

Sit down in a peaceful place. Close your eyes.

Ask yourself both of these questions:

  • How will my life look in five years if I just always stay on the same path because now?
  • How can life likely become even worse for me and maybe even for your people around me?

It may be unpleasant but try to see the undesirable consequences as vividly as possible in your mind to kickstart your motivation to get going for that positive change.

After that ask yourself:

  • How will my life look in 12 months if I stick with it and I carry on with this change? How will this look in 5 years?
  • How will life improve not only for me but for the folks that I love if I stay with it?

Using these two sets of questions try to not just to see the long term as detailed and as vividly as you can but also find your own very personal reason(s) for making the change.

For example , getting into better shape could help you to become more positive and more energetic. That’s great.

But to actually find the heart of your inspiration keep looking for a few more minutes for the more individual answer.

The answer could be that you want to make this change in your health because if you don’t then you might not have the power to have fun and play just as much as you want with your son whilst he is young. And as he or she grows up you may be too exhausted from work to give your pet quality time each day.

If you want to make a change within your money habits then it might be because you always dreamed of seeing the pyramids of Egypt or visiting the Maldives with the person you love many in the world.

Jot down those deepest reasons on the piece of paper and put that note where you cannot prevent seeing it every day.

2 . Let the motivation sparkling in other individuals flow over to you.

Another great method to recharge your motivation is just to tap into the motivational energy and perspectives associated with other people.

Therefore talk to the people in your life about their dreams and what they will feel most motivated to obtain and to do in their lifestyles.

But don’t feel confined to just the individuals you know in real life.

I often refresh my motivation by listening to a small part of an audio book by Brian Tracy or Wayne Dyer. Or even I may watch a Youtube-video by Ali Abdaal or Matt D’Avella. Or look over a chapter in a book on my Kindle.

Spending just five or 10 minutes with doing that can, in my experience, very often switch your mood and mindset close to and ignite your motivation again.

3. Just get started and let the motivation catch up with you.

Sometimes the 2 tips above might not function that well even though they may be very powerful.

What can you do then?

Well, you can take a break plus recharge your batteries since that is sometimes simply what is needed.

Or you can do what I quite often perform when I am having a good uninspired morning.

I get started anyway, inspite of the lack of motivation within.

I do so through a small step forward and by just focusing on taking that one stage. I may for example tell myself that I will work on a brand new article or on modifying a part of a new course pertaining to 3 minutes.

When that is done however take another small phase and I focus only upon that until it is done.

At first carrying out that task may not really feel fun or interesting but it is just a small step that I need to take so it feels acceptable.

Things do not stay that way though.

The next step tends to be a little easier and maybe even a little bit enjoyable.

And by the step after that one particular the motivation is getting up with me and I was starting to have fun and to really enjoy what I am performing.

You will most likely not feel motivated every day. Which is OK.

You can get going step by small step anyway and quickly the motivation will start to catch up with you.
